Chiroptera
This one is for all you chiroptera fans out there. It is a beautiful, bat inspired design. It plays off of a style from the classic Victorian era, when nature and animal themes were very popular. The purple amethyst was also very popular during the Victorian era, and features a unique shape that makes it stand out.

It all started here
This gothic, vintage design all started with inspiration from Jack Elliot’s musical Vampire saga. Watch the short video for a quick intro to the story behind the design. For a deeper dive into what makes it such a special piece, jump into the story behind the Chiroptera necklace.
The Devil is in the Details
I’ve learned through years of design, often times the difference between an underwhelming design and a magnificent one is in the little details. For instance, the tear in the wing gives the necklace more character, as if it has an interesting story to tell behind that tear.
Mimicry
Speaking of the details, note that the connection points for the chains are designed to mimic a bats thumbs, as if the bat were hanging from the chain by the thumbs on it’s wings.
Why Do Things the Hard Way?
Go to any jewelry store and ask them what the best clasp is. They’ll tell you it’s the lobster clasp because of it’s durability. I say that’s crazy. It’s the lobster clasp because it is a very traditional industry.
I wear a chain everyday, and my experience with lobster clasps has been fidely, frustrating, and after a few years of daily use, the little tiny moving parts gave out and the clasp needed to be replaced.
I asked my jeweler if there was anything more durable, that might last longer, figuring the answer would be no, but after thinking for a minute, they brought out a neglected magnetic clasp that has been sitting around for years. I’ve been using it ever since and wondering why we would use all these other fidely clasps.
This is so easy to put on behind my neck, and there are no moving parts to break. It pretty much clasps itself like magic. Why would you ever use anything else?
