Mountains Aren’t Defined by Perfection
My favorite place to be is in the mountains, whether that’s taking my boys out for a campout under the stars, or taking the long slow hike to the to top of nowhere. I love the peacefulness and the company of wildlife. And I’m always taken back by the magnificence of the mountains. But that’s not shaped by perfection. That beauty is forged from ages of wind and water beating down on the mountain. Beauty doesn’t come from clean perfection. It comes from the stories left behind, written in our skin and in our bones.

The Ring That Captures What Truly Makes Mountains Beautiful
Not only is this ring designed with a rocky, organic shape, but the stone selection and setting style take it to the next level. The stone is set upside down to capture the inspiring look of the snowy peaks. And while most people and jewelers would call me crazy, because this puts the most fragile parts of the stone at risk, I say, “Isn’t that what mountains, and being on the mountains, is all about, building adventure and stories to tell, out of preparing for risks that others wouldn’t dare?” Out here in Colorado we love hiking 14er’s, or mountains with peaks that are 14,000 ft. above sea level. It’s a risk, and it’s exhausting, but with the right preparation, it makes a hell of a story to tell.
The stone I’ve selected adds even more to the story of this ring. It’s a moss agate, which is a beautiful stone that really brings the nature theme home with it’s embedded green moss on display as you pear into the stone. It is also a stone with a cost that makes it easy to replace if it gets too damaged, but don’t! You see, the damage is the point. Setting the stone upside down like this will inevitable damage the stone, clipping the culet as well as scratching and chipping the stone. But that is the point! That is what makes mountains so beautiful, and the more damage the stone takes, the more stories it will have to tell. And being a stone with a low cost, there’s no need to sweat the damage.
When you can’t be in the mountains, keep this reminder close.
